Ishtiaq Ahmed Novels Top 5 “Khas Numbers” List
created by Shahzad Bashir – Author
Hi Ishtiaq Ahmed Fans ! Today I’m going to present my favourite khas numbers ranking for Ishtiaq Ahmed Novels. Read why these fantastic novels are at the top 5 list. So let’s start with Number 5.
No.5: Duniya Ke Qaidi – (July 1984)
At number five, I placed this novel after a lot of careful thought. Let me explain why.
When Ishtiaq Ahmad published the first special issue titled “Jeral ka Mansuba” (Jeral’s Plan) and brought together the parties of Inspector Jamshed and Inspector Kamran Mirza, that meeting became unique and historic. Readers loved it so much that after the publication of the Shoki Series, people strongly started demanding that in some special issue all three parties should be included together.
Now think about how difficult that must have been. I mean, the Jamshed–Kamran party has its own style: chasing criminals, jumping into danger, confronting powerful criminals — bangs, crashes, gunfire, explosions, and so on. Right?
But the Shoki Series is the complete opposite. In terms of dialogue, satire, humor, intelligence, and wit they are equally strong, but when it comes to action — fighting and brawling — they stay miles away from it.
So this challenge was even mentioned by Ishtiaq Ahmad himself. But once the decision was made, it was made: it had to be done. Then the announcement came for the special issue “Duniya ke Qaidi” (Prisoners of the World).
And we rushed to the library so we could book it first — because of course we wanted to read it before anyone else.
But when the novel was finally published… wow! It was such a pleasure to read. The Shoki Brothers showed amazing brilliance in their first meeting. Before that, there was intense suspense about how these three parties would meet — especially how the meeting with the Shoki Brothers would happen. And honestly, the way that meeting actually takes place was beyond imagination. It truly made the heart leap with joy.
Then taking them along as part of the team and still maintaining justice while confronting the enemies — that was certainly not an easy task.
For me, this novel definitely deserves a place in the Top Five. If you haven’t read it yet, you should definitely do so.

No.4: Sunehri Chatan – (Dec-Jan 1987)
Back in the 1980s, when sources of information were limited, I would only occasionally get to read something about space science or extraterrestrial life—either on television once in a while or in newspapers and magazines. Those topics fascinated me the most, and they raised many questions in my mind. Of course, the means for research were also very limited.
Then the announcement of “Sunehri Chattan” (Golden Rock) was made. Just by reading its previews, I realized that the time had finally come when many of my questions might be answered. And that’s exactly what happened.
If I say that Sunehri Chattan was, for its time, a novel comparable to a Hollywood blockbuster film, I wouldn’t be exaggerating. The story revolves around extraterrestrial beings and flying saucers, but what truly makes it special is everything surrounding it: the suspenseful beginning, thrilling and mysterious events, preparation for the mission, obstacles created by criminals, warnings from the alien beings, attacks by flying saucers—and then the determination to confront all of this.
The Inspector Jamshed–Kamran–Shoki team sets out with courage, surpassing every other spy team in the world and eventually reaching the land of the flying saucers themselves.
It is such an amazing novel that, honestly, it felt even more enjoyable than many Hollywood science-fiction films. And even now, whenever I get the chance to read it again, it is just as entertaining as before. Even though today we know the answers to many of those questions and possess far more advanced knowledge, this novel—considering its time—remains one of the best of the best.
If you don’t believe it, try reading it yourself.

No.3: Begal Mission – (Jan 1986)
In my opinion, “Bagal Mission” deserves the third position in the list of the Top 5 Ishtiaq Ahmad novels. The reason is quite simple—especially considering today’s context of the Iran–Israel conflict. Naturally, many people hope that the power of a bully state like Israel comes to an end and that it becomes weaker than even a crawling insect on the earth.
Well, in Bagal Mission, at least Ishtiaq Ahmad and his characters fulfill that wish. Yes, in this novel the Bagal (Israel) nuclear plant is blown up.
But wait—this task was not easy at all. The story actually begins with one of Ishtiaq Ahmad’s shorter special issues titled “Pur khof Fitna”. This special issue features only the Inspector Jamshed team, and at its end Inspector Jamshed asks the President of the country for permission to destroy Bagal’s nuclear plant—and he receives that permission.
After a few more novels, Bagal Mission was finally written. Its beginning is so thrilling and gripping that you simply won’t be able to stop reading until you finish the entire special issue. It is a novel packed with adventure, powerful action, intelligence, brave confrontations, and one brilliant strategy after another.
All I can say is that the novel is truly outstanding. In fact, back in 2021, when AI tools and video apps were not common, I created a video summary of this novel with background music and sound effects. You can imagine how much I like this novel!
So yes, it definitely deserves the third spot. The video link is provided.

No.2: Batil Qayamat – (Jul 1987)
You could also call it “False Doomsday” or “Fake Doomsday.” It describes a terrifying plan that becomes a major threat to the Muslim world.
From a religious perspective, this novel is very important. It not only exposes foreign conspiracies but also deceptive, Dajjal-like plots. The events related to the end times are presented in such a way that if a reader previously had little knowledge about them, this novel can help them learn about some of the most important signs of the approaching Day of Judgment.
The conspiracies of the disbelievers have always continued, and even today we see extremely surprising—sometimes almost unbelievable—plots being exposed. What makes it even more remarkable is that this novel was written several decades ago, yet it touches on themes that still feel relevant.
However, despite all these points, there is one very big reason why I placed this novel at number two. Ishtiaq Ahmad himself once said that among all his novels, “Batil-e-Qayamat” was his favorite. So if it was the author’s own favorite novel, then it certainly deserves the second spot in my Top 5 ranking.
What do you think?
If you haven’t read this novel yet, you should definitely read it at the first opportunity.

No.1: Ghar Ka Samandar – (Jul 1997)
There are several major reasons why I placed this novel Ghar Ka Samandar at number one.
First, it is the longest novel written by Ishtiaq Ahmad. Second, it also holds the record for being one of the longest novels in children’s literature. The third important reason is that Ishtiaq Ahmad himself told his readers that this is a novel that must be part of their personal libraries. In other words, anyone who reads and likes his work should definitely keep this novel at home.
The reason for this is clear: it deals with a topic that readers should be aware of.
In this novel, all three parties appear together—Inspector Jamshed’s team, Inspector Kamran Mirza’s team, and the Shoki Brothers. As usual, they demonstrate intelligence, bravery, and humor, along with powerful action.
Is this novel part of your collection?
If not, then your library is incomplete without it.
